The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has enhanced its Monitoring and Response Strategy and developed a color-coded health alert index to provide the public with strong and clear guidance on suitable.

The DEP is also warning people about harmful algal blooms in several New Jersey lakes.

Harmful algal blooms can cause skin irritation, nausea, and vomiting if ingested.

The DEP is advising people to avoid contact with water in the following lakes:

  • Lake Hopatcong
  • Lake Wawayanda
  • Lake Mohawk
  • Lake Musconetcong
